In general however when we speak about history what we really are referring to is not just human history, but history that has shaped the world we live in.  In  those terms the claim that America has no history is nonsense, as America has had and continues to have a large influence on our world.  What it lacks in depth or years it makes up for in breadth and spheres of influence. As Freemasons we are aware, or should be aware, that Masonic principles help shape America during it’s formative years, and those formative years most certainly include the dramatic and traumatic events of the mid 19th century, the American Civil War.

This presentation has an arbitrary start point, both geographically and chronologically. It’s a journey of loosely connected events; a journey that introduces us to Freemasons whose contribution to history has in some respect been significant; a journey that spans a period of history from 1733 to 1865, and beyond; a journey that takes us to 6 states in The United States of America, (Georgia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Texas),  and it’s a journey that ends where it begins on the eastern seaboard, in the City of Savannah, Georgia. But most of all it’s a good excuse to show you some of my photographs and contextualise those images through historical events, with little or no attempt to avoid deviation.
