After the war numerous memorials where erected to commemorate those who fought and those died. One of the largest is the Pennsylvania memorial which stands on the battlefield at Gettysburg along with 1,319 other monuments and 410 cannon commemorating that ferocious and pivotal engagement that took the lives of 23,000 union troops and 28,000 confederates.
