Union Army officer Captain Henry Harrison Bingham (1841-1912), of Chartiers Lodge #297, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Recipient of the Medal of Honor, Bingham is famous in masonic literature for having provided assistance to his dying fellow Mason, General Lewis Armistead. After the war he served as postmaster of Philadelphia. He was elected US congressman from Pennsylvania in 1878 and served until his death in 1912.
